Activities

A Holiday with something for everyone!

The area promises a variety of activities from leisure and dining, shopping, historical sites, many sports and walks.

Villa La Fuente is located in the Calblanque Nature Reserve.

A short hike will take you up ‘Lion Mountain’, behind the villa, where you can scan the waters of the Mediterranean below and to survey the villa, Las Barracas, Los Belones and the Mar Menor beyond.

The Murcia region is blessed with sunshine throughout the year which makes it attractive for long weekend get-aways.

Nestled within the mountains of the Calblanque Nature Reserve with stunning views overlooking the La Manga Club Resort and with sea views of the Mar Menor in the distance, the villa is perfectly suited for all.

As well as enjoying the villa as a quiet retreat and home for their stay, previous guests have enjoyed being at the villa whilst on more active holidays: golfing parties enjoy the many local courses, especially in May, September and October.

Other guests have enjoyed hiking breaks or attending tennis training camps or kite surfing trips, for example.

Los Belones Village

A 5-minute walk away is the village of Los Belones, which has everything you might need: shops, supermarket, ATM, restaurants and bars – all Spanish and most hospitable.

There is a market in the village is on a Tuesday morning.

As you leave the villa on to Avenida de La Fuente and head down the hill into the village and you’ll meet the main street.

You will immediately see various restaurants, shops and bars.

Turn left and you will find Via Romana restaurant –  a great favourite – and also a variety of stores and food shops. There’s a good computer store and plenty of estate agents! At the top end of the road leading the La Manga Club there’s a square with more shops and facilities, and places to eat.

Turn right from the Avenida de La Fuente and you will find the main square, the Church and a small Upper supermarket.

There are also further shops beyond that. This road leads towards Cabo de Palos, Mar de Crystal and La Manga strip.

There are also banks, solicitors and English butchers and opticians, and medical centres.

The community in the village are very welcoming and friendly, but prepare to brush up your Spanish language skills

The La Manga Club Resort

The La Manga Club Resort with restaurants, bars, shops, communal pools, tennis, golf and a Spa is about a 5-minute drive away.

The two hotels and many restaurants are managed by Hyatt and are 5*. There are also banks, solicitors and estate agents and bike hire for example. There are frequent sporting events and entertainments.

Guests to the area do not have to be accommodated on the La Manga Club Resort to enjoy all the amenities it offers.

Situated at the heart of the Resort, The Racquets Club has recently undergone an exciting transformation to upgrade facilities and install a state-of-the-art fitness hub and Padel Tennis centre.

The La Manga Golf Club also has had new investment, with a new club house. The Resort is home to three 18-hole golf courses that run along the 6km of the resort, and each course provides challenges for beginners and experienced alike.

La Manga Golf also has a driving range area and a great academy for all levels with the latest equipment for the practice of this sport.

Nearby Beach

Guests may follow a footpath down from Lion Mountain to a secluded beach (cala) with wonderful clear waters for a swim. It is advisable to wear shoes or trainers, flip flops are not recommended. (There are no lifeguards on these Cala, so the usual caution about undercurrents apply.)

The area is quiet and peaceful and many of the neighbours are full time residents, and very welcoming. The location of the villa provides a perfect balance of rural  and local village life with day and night-time activities nearby.

There are other beaches close by, some offer sailing, kite surfing and wind surfing.

Nearby activities include hiking, mountain biking, sailing, golf, horse riding, and other golf and tennis facilities.

Nearby Cabo de Palos is a typical Spanish fishing port with impressive seafood restaurants, and a market on a Sunday morning. It is a 15-minute car journey.

There also a Go Kart track on the way to Cabo de Palos.

The city of Cartagena is a 30-minute drive and both Murcia and Lorca are well worth a visit.

You will find more information on what the local area offers under the Activities section and under Important Information

THE LOCAL BEACHES

There are many local beaches. Amongst the most popular with us are one at Islas de Menores on the Mar Menor.  The water in the Mar Menor is shallow and warm. It is great for children but perhaps not so much for those who like waves and depth.

The beaches of Calblanque nature reserve by the Mediterranean are beautiful and the long sandy beaches and the cool waters are enticing, and the swimming is very good.

La Reona Cala, just before Cabo de Palos, is another welcoming beach set in a cove.

Guests may enjoy a beautiful sunset and a bar that serves excellent mojitos!

Snorkelling beaches can be found near the lighthouse at Cabo de  Palos.  There is also a popular beach by the restaurant Katy in Cabo.

Just behind the villa there is also a secluded cove beyond Lion Mountain and within walking distance from the villa. You can either walk or drive to the top of the road and park just below the blue house on the hill (it is the Old Custom’s House).

Follow a footpath down from Lion Mountain to a secluded beach (cala) with wonderful clear waters for a swim. It is advisable to wear shoes or trainers, flip flops are not recommended.

Please note: There are no lifeguards on most of these Cala, so the usual caution about undercurrents and undertows apply.

Additionally, there are 23 kms of beaches along both sides down the La Manga “Strip” to explore.

These beaches are home to sailing, kite surfing, wind surfing, jet skiing and water-skiing beaches.  And there are also the mud beaches half-way down the strip to explore.

Additionally, there is a small 18-hole pitch and putt course on the Resort

The La Manga Club Golf Academy is famed for its outstanding tuition for all levels of golfer, with state-of-the-art technology.
